Comparative Efficacy of Humidifiers for Noninvasive Infant Respiratory Support

چکیده

Abstract Delivery of cold, dry air to infants while supporting their breathing can lead hypothermia in addition irritating and damaging sensitive nares negatively impacting outcomes with these therapies. In high resource settings, electric heated humidifiers are used mitigate this problem. many resource-constrained passive nonelectric bubbling instead used. We here compare the efficacy conventional humidification, custom-built low cost humidification a control no humidification. hospital patient room (temperature 22 °C, humidity 50%), temperature delivered simulated lung via BC161-10 Fisher Paykel bubble continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) system were measured (Delivered CPAP: 5 cm H2O; flowrate varied from 4 8 liters per minute (LPM) 2 LPM increments.) As was LPM, relative (standard deviation) each humidifier as follows: 10% (3.6%), bubbler 44% (3.7%), 67% (1.7%), 91% (0.86%). Delivered 38 °C (0.21 °C) versus 33 for all other setups. Conventional heating is more effective than provides an intermediate degree Through further improvement concept inspiratory circuit sensor based element, yet solution could be developed.

Noninvasive Respiratory Support.

Mechanical ventilation is associated with increased survival of preterm infants but is also associated with an increased incidence of chronic lung disease (bronchopulmonary dysplasia) in survivors. Nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) is a form of noninvasive ventilation that reduces the need for mechanical ventilation and decreases the combined outcome of death or bronchopulmonary...

Comparative physiologic effects of noninvasive assist-control and pressure support ventilation in acute hypercapnic respiratory failure.

STUDY OBJECTIVE To compare the effects of noninvasive assist-control ventilation (ACV) and pressure support ventilation (PSV) by nasal mask on respiratory physiologic parameters and comfort in acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF). DESIGN A prospective randomized study. SETTING A medical ICU. PATIENTS AND INTERVENTIONS Fifteen patients with COPD and AHRF were consecutively and rand...

Efficacy of noninvasive CPAP in COPD with acute respiratory failure.

Dynamic hyperinflation and the development of intrinsic positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEPi) are commonly observed in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in acute respiratory failure. Previous studies have shown that externally applied PEEP reduces PEEPi and its adverse effects in mechanically-ventilated COPD patients. The purpose of this study was to determine...

Noninvasive respiratory support for acute respiratory failure-high flow nasal cannula oxygen or non-invasive ventilation?

J Thorac Dis 2015;7(7):1092-1097 www.jthoracdis.com For patients with acute respiratory failure there may be advantages to the avoidance of invasive mechanical ventilation, i.e., ventilation via endotracheal intubation. Indeed, soon after the introduction of invasive mechanical ventilation many complications of positive pressure ventilation were identified (1,2). Some are directly related to th...

Noninvasive pressure support ventilation in patients with acute respiratory failure.

To further delineate indications for noninvasive pressure support ventilation (NIPSV), we proposed this noninvasive technique as an alternative to endotracheal intubation in 17 consecutive patients with acute respiratory failure from various causes. Eight patients (47 percent) were successfully ventilated with NIPSV, while in 9 (53 percent), NIPSV failed. Gas exchange values before initiating N...
